This shift has brought forth numerous obstacles, particularly for d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing (d/Dhh) university students. Hence, this research aims to identify the challenges encountered during online learning amidst the pandemic at the School for the Handicapped (SfH), the only institution in Turkey providing vocational higher education to hearing-impaired students. Conducted as a qualitative case study at the SfH, the research involved 20 hearing-impaired students and 19 faculty members as participants. Data obtained from the Mergen Anadolu Learning Management System platform, WhatsApp Platform and other platforms, was used for online education. Interviews, open-ended questionnaires, and the researcher’s journal were compiled and analyzed inductively. Findings from the study highlighted a multitude of challenges encountered in the online learning process, affecting both faculty members and students at the SfH. The challenges encountered by participants in online learning at the SfH were found to be related to difficulty in understanding lessons, lack of subtitles and sign language translation, difficulty accessing computers and software, Internet problems, low camera usage, low motivation, and lack of interaction. </style>
<issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">294-312</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Sema Unluer</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">BARRIERS IN THE INTEGRATION OF ICT AT THE SCHOOL FOR THE HANDICAPPED</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">case study</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">hearing impaired</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">participant observation</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2011</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">August/2011</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">https://oaji.net/articles/2014/457-1406576416.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">33</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Before developing action plans for effective information and communication technologies (ICT) integration, it is important to determine and overcome the barriers encountered in the teaching-learning process of the educational institutions. Therefore the purpose of this study is to determine the barriers experienced in the process of ICT integration at the School for the Handicapped (SfH)- the only school in Turkey that gives vocational higher education to hearing impaired students. The study was carried out with the qualitative case study at the SfH in the academic year of 2007–2008. The participants of the study were all from the SfH, 60 hearing-impaired students, 21 faculty members and 3 administrators. The data were collected through the participant observations. Interviews, open-ended questionnaires, researcher’s journal, documents, archival records and artifacts were compiled and analyzed inductively. Among the findings obtained in the study, the barriers experienced in the process of the ICT integration were the problems experienced by administrators, by the faculty members and by the students. The barriers experienced in the process of ICT integration by the participants at the SfH were found to be in relation to technical problems, technical support problems and problems based on lack of knowledge. The data have been discussed in the light of the related literature. </style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">92-110</style></section></record></records></xml>
