The aim of this study was to examine and evaluate the interest of secondary school students in the concepts of physics, chemistry and biology taught in science classes by grade level. The participants included 251 students enrolled in 16 different classrooms in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in a boarding secondary school located in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey. The study was carried out as a developmental study in single screening model. For compliance with the research pattern, study data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of four open-ended questions, and the questionnaire was given to the students in order to find out their thoughts on the matter under consideration. In addition, the students were asked to draw a picture depicting the place and importance of science in their life and to explain their drawings briefly in writing. The data obtained from the open-ended questionnaire and drawings were analyzed through content analysis. The collected data were classified in categories and themes, and matrices were generated accordingly. In addition, frequency and percentage analysis was performed. As a result, science was found to be mostly associated with concepts regarding biology discipline by the students. Also, overall interest level was found to be higher with physics and biology topics at all grade levels studied here.</style>
<issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">6</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">894-911</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Milan Kubiatko</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">IS THE INQUIRY-BASED SCIENCE EDUCATION THE BEST?</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">IBSE</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">science education</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">science subjects</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching process</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2016</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">October/2016</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://journals.indexcopernicus.com/abstract.php?icid=1224694</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">73</style></volume><pages><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Discontinuous</style></pages><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">The science education is fighting with a relatively big problem. Many academicians, teachers and also laic society are still perceiving difficulty in understanding of concepts from science subject and lack of interest about this group of subjects. In the past the teaching process was very formal focused on the memorizing of the facts without any deeper understanding of the processes in the nature. Pupils and students knew all definitions about concepts in the science subjects, but practical application was on the low level. The academicians, teachers and other people interested in the science education were eager to change system of education. They wanted to include new approach into science education. The inquiry-based science education (IBSE) seemed to be as the right way for the better understanding of science process by pupils and students. </style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Editorial</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">4-5</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Milan Kubiatko</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">SCIENCE SUBJECT AND THE ROLE OF A TEACHER</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">learning process</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">practical knowledge</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">problems of education</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">science subjects</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2016</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">February/2016</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://journals.indexcopernicus.com/abstract.php?icid=1199714</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">69</style></volume><pages><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Discontinuous</style></pages><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">I would like to thank the editor of the journal, who gave me space to write some sentences about some actual problems of education. I am interested in science education, so the problems occurring in science education are close to me. So I would like to introduce you some problems of science subjects, which are well known, but solutions are searched for, how to improve the interest in science subjects among pupils and students. All below presented ideas are the opinions of the authors, you can disagree with or agree. The purpose is to evoke the discussion about the presented problematic. This problematic is still present in many articles, which are warning on the decreasing interest in this group of subject. So, where is the reason, that only a small amount of pupils and students like science subjects? There are plenty of answers, but which of them is correct? </style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Editorial</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">4-5</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Petr Emanovský</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Bronislava Štěpánková</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">INSIGHTS INTO INNOVATION OF INITIAL SCIENCE TEACHER TRAINING</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">initial teacher training</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">science subjects</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2012</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">July/2012</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://oaji.net/articles/2014/457-1413727258.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">45</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">The quality of science education is a very contemporary didactic topic at present. Improving the quality of this education is unthinkable without a quality science teacher training at universities and other educational institutions. Some innovation of contents and organization of the study programme for future science teachers was realized within the ESF project &quot;Professional science teacher training for careers in a competitive environment&quot; at Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. The project focuses on improving the training of teachers of all science branches in connection with the growing needs of the current competitive labour market. One of the main aims of the project leading to this improvement was the creation of new and innovated subjects oriented to teaching practice. A research focused on finding benefits of the new subjects for students was realized within the project. The objective of the research was to investigate the difference between students’ expectations and real benefits of the subjects. The research results were very useful as a feedback for a subsequent modification of the study programs. Some particular examples of the process and results of the research are described in the paper.</style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">10-18</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Milan Kubiatko</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">IS THERE ANY CHANCE TO INCREASE PUPILS’ INTEREST IN SCIENCE SUBJECTS?</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">interest in science</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">science education</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">science subjects</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2012</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">June/2012</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://oaji.net/articles/2014/457-1410006895.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">43</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Nowadays, in the science world, especially in the science education world exist many problems, which are or which will be investigated. The part of them is presented in this number. We are meeting with the results with science research every day, the results are presented in different form of resources, from print form to electronic form. So these results are not very flattering, mainly the interest about science subjects is decreasing and the way, how this trend to stop is still not found. Some universities published reports, where is showed, the number of students, whose study some science subject is rapidly decreasing. With respect to important meaning of the science subjects for the development of society is necessary this situation to solve.</style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Editorial</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">5-6</style></section></record></records></xml>
