A comparative analysis of education outcomes for two groups of third-year students of engineering specialization taught in Bauman Moscow State Technical University was carried out. Group I of 72 students was taught in the year 2016-17 using teaching methods including only lectures and seminars, without usage of supplementary interactive materials. A written control work was chosen as a tool of examination; its results were used as a means of assessment of education outcomes achieved by the students in the first module “Probability theory” of the semester course. The results demonstrated by Group I proved not to be satisfactory for achieving the aims of education: successful continuation of learning the next modules, and further usage in professional practice. After detailed analysis of the students’ works and interviewing them, the basic difficulties in understanding and interpretation of the tasks were clarified. Consequently, Group II of 70 students taught in the year 2017-18 in the same specialization as Group I, was provided with new variants of home tasks and supplementary sets of interactive materials to study on lectures and seminars, as well as for independent study at home. The students of Group II have demonstrated significantly higher outcomes as compared to the students of Group I. </style>
<issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">5</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">678-692</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Luca Bussotti</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Paolo Bussotti</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">TRENDS AND CHALLENGES OF MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN MOZAMBIQUE (1975-2016)</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">ethnomatematics</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">international agencies</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">mathematics education</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Mozambique</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">school reforms</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching methods</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2017</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">October/2017</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://oaji.net/articles/2017/457-1509895430.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">75</style></volume><pages><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Continuous</style></pages><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Mathematics has always been a difficult issue, especially in the African countries. Mozambique is not an exception. This country had been colonized by Portugal until 1975. When the independence was obtained, a socialist regime was adopted (1977). The learning of mathematics entered the struggle against colonial and imperialistic ideas. Its best ally was Paulus Gerdes, one of the most relevant ethnomatematicians of the world, who carried out an intense promotion of this approach to mathematics in Mozambican school system. Albeit the great international impact of Gerdes’ ideas, Mozambique never implemented his methodology. When, at the end of the 80s, the country changed from socialism to liberalism, voting a democratic Constitution in 1990, its school system was aligned to the measures of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB). The most recent ones are represented by the Millennium Development Goals. Despite the various reforms of Mozambican school system, the results of Mozambican children in mathematics are among the worst in Africa. The reasons of such a failure are here explained, through a historical approach based on national documents. The most recent experiences of school reform carried out by international agencies together with national institutions are stressed. The negative results obtained by the Mozambican learners as to mathematics are due to several reasons: 1) a lack of consideration of the Mozambican cultural substrate; 2) an improper massification of the school system, where the quality of instruction has been neglected; 3) the specific choice to marginalize mathematics education. </style>
<issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">5</style></issue><work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">434-451</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Leila Bardasuc</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Jose Luis Martinez Rubio</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Nicusor Marcel Udrea</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Monica Delia Domnica</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING METHODS USED IN HIGHER EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY OF EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY OF MADRID, SPAIN</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">creativity development</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">innovative teaching</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">practical activities</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching methods</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2015</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">October/2015</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://oaji.net/articles/2015/457-1449572177.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">67</style></volume><pages><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Discontinuous</style></pages><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of various teaching methods used in higher education and the perception of the students regarding these methods. In order to determine the possible ways to obtain strategic advantages and benefit from the strengths, the university has to know what drives foreign students in choosing a certain study program, even if it is outside their country of origin. At the same time, knowing the disadvantages that prevent them from doing so, helps the university include ways to correct the weaknesses or to offer solutions to them. The students, participating in this research, are enrolled at the European University in Madrid, from different study programs and degrees (license, master and doctoral programs) and were asked to answer a questionnaire about the use of teaching methods, about their perceptions upon effective teaching and the reasons that have determined them to choose to follow a study program. The results were in favor of a higher use of projects, group activities and case studies during classes and seminars at the European University of Madrid and of using new technologies in the educational system (e-learning, simulations, use of intranet, and activities in laboratories). As a primer characteristic searched for when choosing a study program, the students mentioned practice, mainly for developing abilities useful for applying for a job as soon as possible. It is, therefore, important to analyze the teaching methods and this research helps us understand how students see the teaching process and which are the methods that help them to better understand and to be more active during classes. </style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">17-28</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Martin Skutil</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">ICT AS ONE OF THE TEACHING METHODS AT PRIMARY SCHOOL FROM A TEACHER’S POINT OF VIEW</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">ICT in education</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">interview with teachers</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">primary education</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching methods</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2014</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">October/2014</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://oaji.net/articles/2015/457-1422204114.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">61</style></volume><pages><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Discontinuous</style></pages><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">ICT is one of the driving elements of the current primary education. They often replace commonly used teaching methods, however, in many cases, they are also rejected as an element of eliminating the human factor in education. Based on a qualitative survey, the paper presents an interactive whiteboard as a teaching element from the perspective of primary education teachers. The main goal of the research is to point out the teachers' inner motives to use modern technologies in education and identify the broader context of a teachers' preparation with regard to the use of IT in school practice. The research is conducted using semi-structured interviews; the method of constant comparison was used for the qualitative data analysis. The most important findings show that teachers perceive information technology, especially as activating and motivating factor in education. Another important feature is the possibility of immediate and quick scan of the results. For most respondents, it is a replacement for traditional teaching resources, while they don´t forget to mention the importance of printed materials.</style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">105-112</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Silvana Vishkurti</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Aida Spahiu</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Margarita Paci</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">ISSUES OF SCIENCE TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">active pedagogy</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">change strategies</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">didactics of sciences</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching methods</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2011</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">April/2011</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://journals.indexcopernicus.com/abstract.php?icid=939905</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">28</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">This paper aims to propose some ways on how to improve the relation between didactics and science in the field of science teaching in universities. Educating young people in sciences is one of the objectives of a general reform of programs that has swept Higher Education in Albania, due to the Bologna process. But this reform was originally conceived as training for teachers or students rather as an interactive process between these two actors. This paper argues that training teachers with the didactics of science would enable students to acquire knowledge more actively and efficiently. From a socio-constructivist perspective this study analyzes the situation in which vocational education is in Albania as well as the teacher’s role in helping students develop an independent intellectual thought. The results of this study are based on three sources: student questionnaires, teachers’ interviewing and class observations. Data analysis reveals that it is essential for teachers to be professionally trained with innovative methods of didactic research. Their implementation will allow the selection of those practices in science teaching which will facilitate the students’ knowledge acquisition.</style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">123-130</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Renata Holubová</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF TEACHING BY MODERN TEACHING METHODS</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">activity</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">inductive methods</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching methods</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2010</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">November/2010</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://journals.indexcopernicus.com/abstract.php?icid=924382</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">25</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">The most important goal of education is improving the quality of teaching. There are several modern teaching methods that can be used in teaching and learning. These methods are focused on students´ active work. In our project we studied some of these methods, for example problem – based learning, didactic games, methods “how to express the idea with a pencil“(mind maps, tasks), discussion (brainstorming, Philips 66, Hobo), brainstormig, heuristic method. The effectiveness, motivation and problems of these methods were tested during high school physics lessons in Olomouc and Skuteč. The methods were used in various classes by in-service teachers and by pre-graduated teachers. The present critical approach focuses on the availability and appropriateness of teaching methods and learning strategies that might effectively support science education of students with intellectual disability, given the cognitive characteristics, the learning difficulties and competencies of these students, the particular academic and learning skills associated with the acquisition of science concepts, and finally the perspective of promoting the access of students with intellectual disability in the general educational programs. Discussion of the evidences reveals a complex picture, which suggests further empirical verification of the research findings specifically in regard to the inquiry learning method and its implementation on science teaching to students with intellectual disability. Given the implementation of the appropriate instruction methods and learning strategies, science education and even more inclusive science education with an emphasis on hands-on activities and real life experiences could yield benefits, at least for students with mild to moderate intellectual disability, related to their everyday functioning in the context of functional academic skills acquisition. </style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">103-112</style></section></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Tiia Rüütmann</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Jüri Vanaveski</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">CONTEMPORARY TEACHING METHODS EMPHASIZING CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING ADAPTED FOR ENGINEERING EDUCATION AT ESTONIAN CENTRE FOR ENGINEERING PEDAGOGY</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Problems of Education in the 21st Century </style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">interactive lectures</style></keyword><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">teaching methods</style></keyword></keywords><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2009</style></year><pub-dates><date><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">May/2009</style></date></pub-dates></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">http://oaji.net/articles/2014/457-1392409067.pdf</style></url></web-urls></urls><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">11</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Engineering educators should gain greater confidence through the use of extended range of contemporary teaching tools by obtaining specifics of the art of teaching. Also the university teachers have to conform with this trend. The contribution shows on the base of research investigation, how the teaching methods and processes are exploited by the teachers, who take part in the preparation of the students of the line Teaching for the 1st level at elementary (primary) at the Institute of primary and pre-primary education, Faculty of Education, University Hradec Králové. An interesting question seems to be perception of efficiency of the separate teaching methods and subsequently their utilization in teaching process.
It could be stated that in teaching the students of teaching profession for the 1st level of primary school, the academic staff uses different teaching methods. Positive finding is that the lecture, even when it is placed among the most employed ones, does not have dominant position as it was in the past. On contrary, activating and complex teaching methods e.g. discussion and group teaching are coming forward. This phenomenon reveals in performance of the students during their pedagogical practice, which is confirmed by the feedback from the teachers at primary schools.</style>
<work-type><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Original article</style></work-type><section><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">66-73</style></section></record></records></xml>
